Professional standards provide the basis for our approach not only to auditing and accounting work, but to tax and management consulting work as well. In those circumstances where there may not be professional standards that apply directly, we turn to ethical standards instead. And in a time when the headlines are full of corporate corruption, management malfeasance, and blind eyes turned by the accountants, we do not ignore the basic tenets that have undergirded our profession since its beginning. All work performed by our staff accountants is subject to review by partners and managers. We have implemented very specific internal procedures for supervision and review. For our most complex work, the work product undergoes both a detail and a quality review. We make extensive use of work programs to insure that work is appropriately planned. We use topical checklists in most areas of our work to insure that appropriate questions and alternatives are considered and that appropriate steps have been completed. Our financial statement audits and reviews include a detailed technical review (or referencing) of the product. Our personnel undergo ongoing professional training. We never stop learning. Our training is selected and designed to keep us current on changes in tax law and accounting standards and up to date in best business practices. We focus specifically on industries and areas of expertise that will improve our skills and proficiency and benefit our clients directly. Once every three years, our accounting and auditing practice undergoes a peer review designed to insure our compliance with appropriate professional standards. Our most review was conducted in 2005, and we received an unqualified report from the reviewing firm. We are committed to doing the work right, and that benefits our clients directly and on an ongoing basis. |
